Genesis 1:10
βAnd God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.β
KJV
Read in Genesis 1Meaning
The newly distinguished realms are named and affirmed as good. The verse shows goodness attached not only to individual objects but to an ordered relationship between created domains.
Read carefully
Calling the arrangement good is a theological evaluation within the creation account. It does not imply that every later condition of sea and land after Genesis 1 is described by this verse.
Reflection
The chapter repeatedly associates goodness with a world in which different parts have a place and function. Order itself is treated as a gift.
