Genesis 1:21
“And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
KJV
Read in Genesis 1Meaning
From great sea creatures to winged animals, living beings are attributed to God's creative work and are included in the judgment of goodness.
Read carefully
Ancient stories sometimes treated great sea beings as divine or chaotic rivals. Genesis 1 does not present them as competitors with God; they are creatures God makes.
Reflection
The verse places even what humans may find vast or frightening inside the category of creation. Size and power do not make a creature ultimate.
