Genesis 11:2
“And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.”
KJV
Read in Genesis 11Meaning
The people find a suitable plain in Shinar and choose to settle there, creating the setting for the city-building project that follows.
Read carefully
The directional wording has textual and translation nuances; the central point is the settlement in Shinar rather than a modern map reconstruction.
Reflection
A place of settlement becomes the stage on which collective goals, fears, and ambitions are made visible.
