The Lord Will

Genesis 13:14

β€œAnd the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:”

KJV

Read in Genesis 13

Meaning

After the separation, God directs Abram's attention outward in every direction and renews the horizon of the promise.

Read carefully

The command to look belongs to Abram's covenant story; it is not a technique by which believers can claim whatever territory they can see.

Reflection

Perceived loss can look different when viewed within a larger promise and a longer horizon.
