“And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.”

Abram states the crisis plainly: no offspring has been given to him, so a household servant appears to be his heir.

Read the verse within its literary unit and avoid making it say more than the narrative itself establishes.
