Genesis 2:13
“And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.”
KJV
Read in Genesis 2Meaning
Gihon is the second named branch and extends the geographic horizon of the Eden description.
Read carefully
The familiar later biblical use of the name Cush does not by itself solve the location of this river. Geographic reconstructions remain uncertain.
Reflection
The chapter situates human vocation within a world larger than the garden itself. Eden is not portrayed as the whole of creation.
