Genesis 21:18

“Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.”

KJV

Meaning

Hagar is called to active care because Ishmael's story is not ending in the wilderness; a future has been promised to him.

The promise gives Ishmael dignity and future in the text, without authorizing modern ethnic stereotypes or territorial claims.

Hope in this verse takes concrete form through care for the endangered child rather than through abstraction alone.
