Genesis 3:2
βAnd the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:β
KJV
Read in Genesis 3Meaning
The woman's answer restores an important feature of the original command: God had provided abundantly. The prohibition concerned one tree, not the garden as a whole.
Read carefully
The verse does not yet describe the woman as deceived or rebellious. At this point she accurately affirms the broad permission that the serpent's question had obscured.
Reflection
Moral boundaries are easier to distort when provision is forgotten. Remembering what has been given can prevent one restriction from becoming a false picture of deprivation.
