Genesis 3:7
βAnd the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.β
KJV
Read in Genesis 3Meaning
New awareness arrives, but it does not look like triumphant freedom. The couple immediately experiences vulnerability and responds by making coverings for themselves.
Read carefully
Nakedness itself was not condemned in Genesis 2:25. The change lies in the humans' experience after disobedience, so the verse should not be used to portray the human body as inherently shameful.
Reflection
Promises of autonomy can conceal costs that appear only after a choice is made. The verse exposes the difference between anticipated gain and lived consequence.
