Genesis 32:13

“And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;”

Meaning

Jacob chooses a large gift from what he owns, linking practical diplomacy to the prayer that immediately precedes it.

The gift is directed to Esau, not to God, and should not be confused with a theology in which material offerings purchase divine protection.

Prayer does not prevent Jacob from taking responsible practical steps toward the person he fears meeting.
