Genesis 9:27
“God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.”
KJV
Read in Genesis 9Meaning
Noah speaks expansion for Japheth and a future relationship with the tents of Shem, while repeating Canaan's subordinate position.
Read carefully
The Hebrew allows debate over the subject of dwelling in Shem's tents; interpretations should be presented as interpretations, not as lexical certainty.
Reflection
The compressed blessing resists simplistic racial charts and calls for attention to the actual ancient family and covenant context.
