  2. Chapter 2My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
  3. Chapter 3My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
  4. Chapter 4Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
  5. Chapter 5My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
  6. Chapter 6My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
  7. Chapter 7My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
  8. Chapter 8Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
  9. Chapter 9Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
  10. Chapter 10The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
  11. Chapter 11A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.
  12. Chapter 12Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
  13. Chapter 13A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
  14. Chapter 14Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
  15. Chapter 15A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
  16. Chapter 16The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.
  17. Chapter 17Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
  18. Chapter 18Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
  19. Chapter 19Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
  20. Chapter 20Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
  21. Chapter 21The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
  22. Chapter 22A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
  23. Chapter 23When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
  24. Chapter 24Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
  25. Chapter 25These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
  26. Chapter 26As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
  27. Chapter 27Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
  28. Chapter 28The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
  29. Chapter 29He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
