Psalm 116:13
“I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.”
KJV
Read in Psalm 116Meaning
The cup functions as an image of gratefully receiving and publicly acknowledging deliverance. Later traditions may connect cup imagery elsewhere, but this verse should first be read in its psalmic context.
Read carefully
Later traditions may reuse cup imagery, but Psalm 116:13 first belongs to a thanksgiving song after deliverance.
Reflection
