Biblical and historical context
Jerusalem has been continuously inhabited for over 3,000 years. King David established it as the capital of Israel around 1000 BC. The First Temple was built by Solomon, destroyed by Babylonians in 586 BC, and the Second Temple was destroyed by Romans in 70 AD.
