Jordan River
The Jordan River forms the main watercourse of the Jordan Valley and is repeatedly used in Scripture as a boundary, crossing point, and setting of decisive acts. Israel crossed it under Joshua to enter the land; Naaman washed in it at Elisha's instruction; and John the Baptist baptized there, including the baptism of Jesus.
Biblical and historical context
Biblically, the Jordan joins several major narrative moments rather than one single site. Its course runs from the region north of the Sea of Galilee through that lake and south toward the Dead Sea. Because ancient episodes occurred at different crossing and baptism locations, the coordinate shown is only a representative point along the river.
