Mount of Olives
The Mount of Olives is the ridge immediately east of Jerusalem across the Kidron Valley. David crossed it in grief while fleeing Absalom, Zechariah uses it in prophetic imagery, and the Gospels place several episodes of Jesus' final week there, including teaching, prayer, and the approach to Jerusalem.
Biblical and historical context
The ridge overlooks the Temple Mount and lies on the natural route between Jerusalem and Bethany. Its biblical importance comes from repeated narrative and prophetic associations rather than from a single event: royal flight, prophetic expectation, Jesus' teaching about coming events, Gethsemane traditions on its lower slopes, and the departure scene in Acts 1.
