Mount Sinai
Mount Sinai is the mountain associated in Exodus with God's covenant with Israel after the departure from Egypt. Moses encountered God there, Israel received the commandments, and the mountain became a defining setting for the themes of holiness, covenant, law and divine presence.
Biblical and historical context
Scripture identifies Sinai by its narrative and theological role but does not provide coordinates that allow the mountain to be located with certainty today. Several locations have been proposed. A Study page should therefore distinguish the biblical identity of Sinai from later traditions about a particular modern summit.
