Genesis 2:8
βAnd the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.β
KJV
Read in Genesis 2Meaning
God prepares the garden and gives the human a place within it. Habitat precedes assignment.
Read carefully
The text identifies Eden and a garden planted there, but later attempts to map its exact modern location go beyond what can be established securely from this verse alone.
Reflection
Vocation begins in a place received as gift. The human does not first make a world and then invite God into it.
