Genesis 5:16
“And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:”
KJV
Read in Genesis 5Meaning
Mahalalel lives 830 years after Jared and fathers additional sons and daughters who remain unnamed.
Read carefully
The named genealogy should not be confused with the total population; the text itself repeatedly signals additional descendants.
Reflection
A focused ancestral line can coexist with a much larger human story that remains outside the chapter's immediate purpose.
