Genesis 5:20
“And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.”
KJV
Read in Genesis 5Meaning
Jared's years total 962, and his entry ends in death like the generations before him.
Read carefully
The number is part of the ancient genealogical presentation and should not be made to carry scientific claims beyond what Genesis states.
Reflection
The regularity of the death refrain makes the different ending of Enoch's life in the next unit stand out sharply.
