“And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.”

Meaning

Lamech's years total 777 before the genealogy states that he died, repeating the chapter's dominant mortality refrain.

Although 777 is visually striking, the verse does not explain the number symbolically; numerological readings should therefore remain cautious.

Lamech's hope for comfort does not remove his own mortality, and the story's unresolved expectations now pass to Noah.
