Genesis 5:32
“And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth. ”
KJV
Read in Genesis 5Meaning
Noah is associated with three named sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—who will become major figures in the chapters that follow.
Read carefully
The verse lists the three sons together and does not by itself establish their exact birth order or that all three were born in Noah's five-hundredth year.
Reflection
Genesis 5 ends by handing the genealogy into a new narrative generation whose choices and survival will shape the next part of the book.
