The word “Therefore” connects the verdict to verse 4. Because the wicked are chaff-like, they will not stand when God exposes the true weight of each way. “Stand” here differs from the standing in verse 1: there the sinner settles in a path; here that path cannot endure judgment. The “congregation of the righteous” is the community God recognizes and vindicates. The verse does not give readers authority to decide prematurely who belongs there. It directs attention to God’s judgment, which reveals what present appearances may conceal.
