Psalm 72:9
“They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.”
KJV
Read in Psalm 72Meaning
Within “Wide royal horizon,” verse 9 imagines distant peoples bowing before the king, using ancient royal imagery of submission; this detail advances the unit's argument and should not be detached from the whole psalm.
Read carefully
Read Psalm 72:9 inside its literary unit and the movement of Psalm 72; its imagery and claims are constrained by that context.
Reflection
Respond to the verse's specific emphasis — imagines distant peoples bowing before the king, using ancient royal imagery of submission — while reading it together with the surrounding lines of Psalm 72.
