Psalm 90:4
“For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.”
KJV
Read in Psalm 90Meaning
Within “Human mortality and passing time,” verse 4 contrasts God's relation to time with ours: a thousand years are like yesterday or a brief night watch to him; this detail advances the unit's argument and should not be detached from the whole psalm.
Read carefully
Read Psalm 90:4 inside its literary unit and the movement of Psalm 90; its imagery and claims are constrained by that context.
Reflection
Respond to the verse's specific emphasis — contrasts God's relation to time with ours: a thousand years are like yesterday or a brief night watch to him — while reading it together with the surrounding lines of Psalm 90.
