Psalm 90:5
“Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.”
KJV
Read in Psalm 90Meaning
Within “Human mortality and passing time,” verse 5 compares human generations to a flood and a passing sleep, stressing how quickly life is carried away; this detail advances the unit's argument and should not be detached from the whole psalm.
Read carefully
Read Psalm 90:5 inside its literary unit and the movement of Psalm 90; its imagery and claims are constrained by that context.
Reflection
Respond to the verse's specific emphasis — compares human generations to a flood and a passing sleep, stressing how quickly life is carried away — while reading it together with the surrounding lines of Psalm 90.
